At the age of 14, she had a career-ending injury followed by years of navigating her own battle with an eating disorder, depression, anxiety. She learned the dangers of wrapping her entire identity in a sport that could be taken away. She learned how childhood trauma left unattended could follow her through every step of her life until it was faced. Raised by two psychiatrists – mental health was never wforeign to her. She hadn’t yet found her “place” to make an impact until she dove both feet in into bodybuilding.
Kate is passionate about family, mental health, and fitness. Family, to her, is the cornerstone of happiness, as nothing brings her more joy than seeing the world through the eyes of her children and experiencing life with them. Kate takes the role of motherhood so seriously that she stepped away from her professional career to be a stay-at-home mom to her three young children.
Kate has had a long career working in the mental health field, starting as a Psychiatric Nurse in 2009 and becoming a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in 2014. Kate has worked in a variety of mental health settings throughout her career including inpatient, outpatient, hospital consult liaison, partial hospitalization programs, and teaching. In 2023, Kate earned her doctorate in Nursing Practice.
Another important aspect of Kate’s life is fitness. Growing up, Kate was always active in team sports and competed in long-distance track. Through school sports, Kate was introduced to the importance of weightlifting for strength and conditioning, which she stayed consistent with. 2014 Kate discovered competitive powerlifting and was involved in the sport until 2017. It was at the gym in 2017 when Kate saw a woman training for a physique competition that she knew she had found her next passion, bodybuilding. Kate competed in the bikini division of the NPC in 2018 and both bikini and wellness divisions in 2020. Kate fell in love with bodybuilding and the process of working hard and having the discipline to carry out a long-term goal related to your physique. As a mental health professional, Kate is fully aware of the psychological effects extreme dieting, training, competing, and reverse-dieting can have on a person, as she experienced it firsthand.
